Juha Saarinen looks at the piggy in the middle DSLR from Canon. Canon makes lovely gear – mostly – but the Japanese imaging giant has an annoying tendency to come up with confusing product lines. For instance, you may wish to buy an expensive full-frame DSLR for the benefits a bigger imager brings. Read more

    • Excellent 18.7MP APS-C sensor, Image quality even at high ISO levels, HD video, Articulated screen, Wireless flash control, Decent kit lens

Used intelligently – that is, not relying on Auto to do the thinking – the 600D produces excellent pictures. We used it at the beach and at the zoo, two places with difficult light, and it shone in both settings. The EF-S 18–135mm lens would not be our first choice of optics, so we would opt for the body plus a better (shorter zoom range) lens. It costs more but is worth it. The 600D is a lot of camera for the money. Read more

    • Canon are putting emphasis on the ease with which a compact camera user can adapt to the DSLR, so we put this to the test. We selected the “Scene Intelligent Auto” and...
    • Auto focus in live view is frustratingly lethargic.

An affordable DSLR for aspiring photographers who want ease-of-use in a high-resolution camera that includes Full HD video recording plus creative functions. The EOS 600D sits at the top of Canon's entry-level range but includes several features from the 'pro-sumer' models. Positioned between the popular EOS 550D and EOS 60D, the keenly-priced 600D has the same 18 megapixel CMOS sensor as these cameras and the same DIGIC 4 image processor. Read more

The is an entry-level digital SLR camera sporting an 18-megapixel sensor, a supposedly amateur-friendly control interface and menu, and a 3in articulating LCD screen. In our testing we found it could take excellent pictures and very high quality 1080p video, but the controls aren't as intuitive and easy to master as they could be. The menu layout also needs some work in presenting information clearly to camera first-timers. Read more

    • Excellent sensor and great high ISO quality, articulating LCD screen is bright and detailed, some smart improvements from the EOS 550D
    • Requires menu-surfing to find some options, the control layout isn't as streamlined as we think it could be

I watched a million YouTube reviews, tutorials and visited countless blogs to make an informed decision on my next camera purchase. I must say this camera is THE BEST camera you can buy for the price. It's quick, intuitive, easy to use. The image and video quality is outstanding. After using a mirroless camera which was great but lacking in creative capacity this camera is perfect. Read more
