13 December 2011Consider the Nikon AW100 if you're an outdoors type that can make use of the camera's rugged design. It's waterproof and shockproof, yet it doesn't really compromise when it comes to usability. It's picture quality is also clear and vibrant for the most part, although it did sometimes struggle to get the exposure right when in easy mode. Read more

Nikon's ruggedised, 'all weather' AW100 camera is lots of fun to use no matter the weather or your environment. It's waterproof to 10m, drop-proof from 1.5m and it also has a built-in GPS and world map so that the coordinates of your photos are recorded. The body of the AW100 feels solid and well constructed and it's only a tiny bit bigger than a regular compact camera. It has a locked compartment that houses the battery, SD card and output ports (Mini HDMI and USB 2.0). Read more

6 November 2011This is Nikon’s entry into the indestructible compact category. The 16 megapixel camera is waterproof to ten metres, able to withstand the shock of a 1.5 metre drop and will operate down to -10° C. The 28–140mm (film equivalent) lens is enclosed in the body. 7.5cm 460K dot LCD is useable even in fairly bright sunlight. Movie mode is full 1080 HD. GPS is built in. There is also a digital compass, which just about makes this the Swiss army pocketknife of cameras. Read more

"Great camera but need to improve battery chamber cover latch."
6.0/10Reviewer: MichaelT4, CNET2 December 2011Made great shot shots and videos during bicycle trips. After less than a month I tried it in the sea and it died when I was in less than a meter deep. I had the Canon D10 and an Olympus Tough TG-810 which were much better protected against dust and water. The cover latch seem a bit flimsy, also dust and sand easily gets under the dial making it difficult to turn. Read more
