Synopsis: Chinatown Wars is exactly the kind of game the Nintendo DS has been gagging for, evidence that handheld gaming is worth the effort. The game’s appeal crosses the hardcore-casual divide and does more justice to the series than seemed possible. Read more

Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto series is easily the epitome of the open world "sandbox" game design. Other studios have tried to capture that same vibe in their own titles with various levels of success, but for better or worse none have been able to dethrone GTA as the game that's synonymous with the open world genre. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is an achievement. It's not the typical kind of game you'd expect on the DS - the learning curve is steeper than normal thanks to the small help text (expected on a portable) and the legions of police and it's a very adult game. Still, I'll gladly take the time to learn if it comes with the entirety of Liberty City, a working drug economy plus people, cars, boats, and the occasional helicopter and next to no loading times. Grand Theft Auto - the name of the famous series conjures up mental images of crime sprees, massive chases and yes (we cannot forget) even driving down the road in a tank. Given how far its come what sort of game can one expect on the medium of the Nintendo DS? Amazingly an extremely well polished game thats both addictive and fun. As with all of the other GTA games the story is well polished and very broad ranging. Read more
