Few franchises have achieved the success that the Gran Turismo series has. They have sold tens of millions of games spanning four different PlayStation platforms. It has been marketed as the greatest driving game ever from arguably the most successful driving game maker ever, Polyphony Digital. Gran Turismo 5 has been in production for over 5 years, it’s seen it’s fair share of delays causing widespread outcry from passionate fans. Read more
The age-old argument regarding licensed vehicles showing realistic damage doesn't hold water here either; Forza 3 has shown it can be done. It's clear that Polyphony have no interest in rendering accurate damage on the vehicles they've spent hundreds of hours slaving over. Even the impact noise sounds like someone has inflated a wet paper bag and slammed it against a cardboard box. Read more
Closing Comments Gran Turismo 5 is a 10/10 simulator wrapped up in a 5/10 game – driving is as exhilarating as anything that’s gone before, and slavish obsession with the minutiae of many of its cars ensure it's an encyclopaedia of automotive delights. Love the sealed road stuff in a properly quick car; very nice. Dead set hate the rally. The handling is pathetic. It is like driving on ice. CMR Dirt 2, lancer evo rally car, now thats some point and shoot gravel fun that still involves wheel spin, slipping and sliding. GT5 is worse for the inclusion of rally; a totally forgettable component. 7/10... How many years to develop? Not up to par. Good game, not great. Read more
