With nigh on every manufacturer trying its hand at an iPad competitor, Asus has pitched something different. The Eee Pad Transformer mixes a slate with a keyboard and mouse to concoct a device that’s half-notebook and half-tablet. The Back, Home, and Recently run apps icons have been changed by Asus, now clearer than on stock-Android. A live wallpaper has been thrown in, depicting battery life with a tank of water that depletes with use. Read more

    • Honeycomb looks is slick, Loads of expansion ports, Excellent keyboard dock, with extra battery life on tap
    • Keyboard is a little slow when used in the web browser, No 3G, A little heavy, even for a netbook design

The Eee Pad Transformer is a promise of things to come, with a tempting price to boot. Treating Android as a laptop is still a little rough, but for the most part works quite well, and the added battery life is a stroke of genius. Read more

    • No 5GHz Wi-Fi, No charging over USB, Android isn't yet fully notebook ready, Lack of palm-check on touch pad is annoying, No delete key

Is this the netbook killer that the tablet market has been predicting, or is the tablet frenzy much ado about nothing? The Android Honeycomb slider will soon be joined by a Window 7 powered Eee slate and Android slider, but let's take a first look at the Asus EeePad Transformer with dock in tow. Read more

    • High-quality IPS display; Excellent keyboard integration; Great design and value
    • Honeycomb-optimised apps are sparse; Android 3.0 is a tad buggy; No standard USB slot on tablet

We have been running the Eee Pad and the iPad side by side, comparing them as devices for photo storage and display. The ASUS is close, but not quite. The screen aspect ratio, which is perfect for videos, is simply wrong for photos. Even though the pixel count makes the ASUS screen seem bigger, the long thin format squeezes the display area for photos. Read more

    • This is a serious challenge to the dominant iPad. The Android operating system is superior to iOS, with true file management. The touch screen is smooth and responsive.
    • The combined tablet and keyboard is heavy.

Got mine the other day and so far am super impressed with it. Battery life is incredible and it is so responsive. The screen is a pleasure to look at and the docking station that 'Transforms' it into a netbook is a brilliant idea. If you have the money and are in the market for a tablet PC that isnt an iPad then look no further than this device. Read more
