Removing my sarcasm hat, Sid Meier’s Pirates! is still the quality game that it’s always been in all of its guises. Sure, there’s some niggling issues with the motion control scheme, but outside of that there’s a heap of strategy gaming to be had that’s accessible to novices and veterans alike. Read more

All hands on deck! Exclusively for Wii, Sid Meier's Pirates is an exciting high-seas adventure that allows junior buccaneers to helm on for 27 fully customizable ships as they descend upon unsuspecting ports of call to amass a motley crew of seafaring bandits. Captains must collect hidden treasure maps, undertake daring missions and courageous rescues, and swiftly hand out pirate-style justice to local braggarts before hearing the wild call of the ocean and setting sail... • Impressive freedom to play how you want to play, Wii-exclusive bombardment and lock-picking minigames are good additions, Ship combat is tactical and enjoyable.
    • Minigames get old quickly, Unresponsive controls hamper dancing and swordfighting minigames, Some grainy visuals and performance issues, Flimsy manual and poor tutoria...

When I first started to play this game I was very excited and would have given it a 9-9.5 out of 10 more on nostalgia value than anything. But with the mini games becoming tiresome so quickly and the load times between mini games it takes away from the enjoyment, hence my final score of 7.5 out of 10. Another great chapter in this Caribbean saga which must be as close to Sid Meier's original concept for the game as it is possible to get. The feel of Pirates is much slicker than it's PC relation (and I loved that). The speed of the game play forces quicker decison making whether in the thrust, parry and taunts of sword fighting or when in the governor's parlour as you attempt to charm the bodice off his daughter with your debonair dance steps.
