My mum got into LA Noire . She isn't one of those “closet casuals” either. Never has she grasped a controller in concord so it is telling that the relaxed, assured style of Team Bondi’s 1940s detective game compelled even her to try to master virtual-driving. A task that, as it happens, is as good as insurmountable for someone unfamiliar with twin joysticks. Read more

Rockstar’s domination of the character driven, open world genre continues unabated, and L.A Noire represents another in an ever-growing clutch of feathers in Rockstar’s cap. From the end of the Wild West to tales of modern anti-heroes, Rockstar has honed it’s craft of creating remarkable period pieces filled with interesting characters. Read more

L.A. Noire is different. It's not like most video games developed by Rockstar. You don't play the outlaw running wild, free to kill, steal, and cause destruction. You're a cop. A good cop at that, determined to restore order to the violent streets of 1940s Los Angeles. Read more

There will no doubt be some gamers taken aback by the amount of listening required and lack of control in L.A. Noire. It's a certainty that a large amount of the public could be expecting a GTA clone set in the 40's, and they may be disappointed by the result. Enter L.A. Noire with an open mind and readiness to experience something you've never experienced in gaming before and there's something special waiting for you. Read more

    • looks and sounds incredible, immersive to the max, fel and think like a real detective, lots of Mad Men actors
    • certain cases begin to feel the same, need to pay full attention at all times, the 'pay-off' isn't as strong as the middle

As Phelps makes a name for himself in the department, he's called upon to start heading investigations himself, and that means questioning witnesses and interrogating suspects. During interrogations, you select something to question the witness or suspect about from a list in your notebook. Read more

    • Early investigations are very limited, Disconnection between cases leads to jarring moments, Some restrictions during pursuits and shoot-outs feel artificial.

This game is definitely Game Of The Year material. It's been some considerable time since a triple-a game has captivated me in such a way without needing multiplayer to pick up the slack of the story mode (Call Of Duty anyone?). I would have to put this game in my mythical and theoretical list of "Top 5" games. Put simply, buy this game. Read more

    • The game looks... Beautiful to say the least. Character models look staggeringly good, the way they walk is genuine. Everything from the way the walk up and down stair...
